Another Candidate for Congress

Joe Walsh has launched an exploratory committee to determine whether he should become a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 8th District Congressional seat currently held by Democrat Melissa Bean.

According to Walsh,
“Voters are incredibly angry and frustrated by Melissa Bean’s performance over the past couple of years.

"She voted for the failed stimulus package and Cap and Trade legislation and has voiced support for the Public Option in healthcare.

"Now, when her constituents want their voices heard the most, she ignores their wishes by refusing to hold open town hall meetings in the district.

“The stakes are too high in this election. We need to a put a check on the one-party rule in Washington that is bankrupting our country.

"It is absolutely essential that we return more Republicans to Congress as a counter-balance to this out-of-control majority.

"Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that any of the announced GOP candidates in the 8th district race has what it takes to defeat Melissa Bean. If voters continue to tell me that it will take a different kind of candidate to win this race, I’ll run.”
Mr. Walsh has spent the last few months meeting with party officials, conservative activists, potential donors, and 8th district voters in an effort to assess his chances.

His candidacy has been warmly received in the district and he has been invited to Washington D.C. this week to meet with Rep. Kevin McCarthy, Recruiting Chairman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

The NRCC has targeted Illinois’ 8th District as a potential chance to pick up a seat and is interested in fielding the most competitive candidate possible.

Walsh is a native of Barrington, Illinois and he plans to move back to his hometown when he launches his campaign.

He began his career as a teacher and a social worker before becoming a fundraiser for a number of charitable and political causes.

Today, he works for a boutique private equity firm, raising investment capital for new and expanding businesses. He believes that his background in raising money will be one of his greatest assets as a candidate.

Mr. Walsh holds a Masters Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from the University of Iowa. He and his wife Helene have five children.

More information about Mr. Walsh and his campaign can be found on his exploratory committee’s website at Joe Walsh for Congress.

Town Hall Meeting

8th Congressional candidate, Maria Rodriguez to host a Town Hall meeting.

LAKE COUNTY, IL - Maria Rodriguez, candidate for the 8th Congressional District will host a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 26th at 1600 Milwaukee in Lake Villa at Noon. State Senator Dan Duffy(R-26) and State Representative Ed Sullivan(R-51) will join Ms. Rodriguez. The purpose of the meeting is to hear the opinions and concerns of the 8th district residents regarding urgent issues including healthcare. The meeting will be an open forum for any and all concerned constituents.

Rodriguez currently serves as President of the Village of Long Grove and has worked closely with Duffy and Sullivan on various regional issues. "I am grateful for their endorsement and look forward to many more town hall meetings to discuss federal and state issues."

When asked why she chose to run for congress in this election, Rodriguez said, "I am running because members of Congress have lost touch with the people. They are not listening and that is unacceptable to me. Congress is considering legislation that will fundamentally change health care and energy and will have a major impact on job growth in the United States. These decisions should be vigorously debated and consider the will of the people. That is why I am starting my campaign with an open forum where everyone is invited and all views are welcomed."

Rodriguez was recently elected to a second term to lead the Village of Long Grove and has an economics degree from the University of Illinois.

Instead of Robo-Calling

8th District Congresswoman Melissa Bean was robo-calling constituents this week.
She was trying to gauge support for the health care legislation in Congress. Instead of doing robo-calls she could have just looked outside her Washington D.C. window. Instead of doing robo-calls she could have visited the 8th District and held open meetings for all community members to attend. Instead of doing robo-calls she might try reading her mail and answering her phone from citizens of the 8th District.

March on Washington

The National News Media has dismissed the 9 12 protest march on Washington D.C. and has a crowd estimate of tens of thousands. All of them Tea Baggers backed by Republican Party and conservative groups.

They still don't get it and don't want to report the truth. The truth is the people of this country are tried of what Congress and the current President are doing to their country. The country belongs to the people not the government and we the people do not want the government telling us what type of health care we get and making our children and grandchildren pay for all the debt these programs will cost the country.

If you look to foreign and independent news sources you will find the march on Washington had a crowd of between 300,000 and one million people. They were protesting not only the health care bills in Congress, but the government bailouts, increased taxes, and lack of any real energy plan. Every member of Congress should visit their community often and hold open meetings to hear the voice of the people. If they don't wish to they can be be replaced next year.

Common Sense

President Obama's last ditch plea to the American public about healthcare reform is too little, too late. He is a very eloquent speaker, and although I think his popularity poll may spike temporarily as a result of his speech, I believe that the American public still knows and believes that no matter how eloquent he may be, his message is the same...confusion, spend money we don't have to OVERHAUL an entire system because hey, we should trust him.

Is that like how we were supposed to trust him on the stimulus? And cap and trade? The Auto bailouts for which we now hear (no surprise) that the taxpayer won't get their(our) money back? The stimulus spending, despite the credit he and his administration takes, is not working. There has been under 15% of the stimulus spent, a lot of what has been spent it is riddled with pork and fraud, unemployment is now at 9.7% when it wasn't supposed to go past 8% with the passage of the stimulus bill.

When is the President going to put the will of the people ahead of the will of himself? People voted for hope and change, not for a complete and radical departure from what made this country the best country on the planet.

Government serves its purpose, but that purpose should be limited. The President and a lot of the Congress think that THEY know what's best for you and me, in the 8th Congressional District in Illinois. What's good for us here isn't necessarily what is good for Topeka, KS or Scottsdale, AZ.

So why would we trust people to make those decisions for us? The government does serve a purpose, but making decisions about how my family receives and uses healthcare is not one of them. That is best left to each and every one of us on an individual level.

I think the President and Congress have lost touch with reality and with what is truly going on in America. How could they truly want to cram through a radical agenda, in the dark of holiday weekends, weekends, parts of other bills, etc? If the agenda is so great, open it up for debate, have separate bills for everything, don't hide it.

If they are convinced what they want to do is for the best interest of America, welcome townhall meetings, feedback, open debate and discussion of ideas. Don't criticize people for parties you think they represent. Don't tell the American people it is ESSENTIAL to IMMEDIATELY pass these bills to keep costs down and not even allow discussion on medical malpractice reform.

Who are these people truly serving?

Pay to Talk

So far 8th District Congresswoman Bean has only had limited access meetings with local Chamber of Commerce meetings that required attendees to pay for their attendance. But even at these meetings some people were able to let her know that voters in the 8th District are unhappy with the Obama health care bills in Congress.

Another limited way for Congresswoman Bean to reach people in the community is invitation only telephone townhall meetings, check this link to that story: http://www.mchenrycountyblog.com/labels/Telephone%20Town%20Hall%20Meeting.html

If you happen to see Congresswoman Mellisa Bean visiting in our community let her know what you think about the TRILLION dollar Federal budget deficit with even more debt and government control of our lives if the Obama health care bills pass in Congress.
