Save our Ship

100 years ago on March 4th 1909, President Theodore Roosevelt left the White House. He left the nation with National Parks, a stronger economy, and a Nobel Peace Prize. Events after he left office would push many nations, including the United States into a World War. The Ship of State started to veer off course.

Socialist governments start to take hold in several countries.

20 years ago in January of 1989 President Ronald Reagan left the White. He left office with pride knowing he left the country in better shape then he found it. Our country now has been attacked, thousands of innocent citizens killed, involved in a far off war, and the economy in trouble. The Ship of State has started to veer off course.

Socialist programs start to take hold in the White House.

A Speeding Tax

We have a new way of raising money for the state. Set up speed cameras on the main roads and watch the money roll in and if anyone questions it just say it's really for safety.

That is what State Senator Terry Link is proposing in a new piece of legislation. According to Senator Link "If people start to slow down, they wouldn't have to worry about the fines,". Under the proposed law, speeding tickets issued by the cameras would be treated as non-moving offenses, just like parking tickets, very similar to the red light cameras. The same red light cameras that bring income into the towns that set them up even if they are not proven to reduce accidents. This is just another income source or as some would say a hidden tax.

Again, the Democratic controlled state legislature is raising taxes and increasing the size of government. Just remember this new tax Terry Link and his friends from Cook County have come up with when they ask for your vote in next years election.

Big Government Ryg

Democratic Rep. Kathleen Ryg of Vernon Hills has sponsored a new bill. She wants to create a new layer of state government to decide which roads will get repaired or improved and which don't. House Bill 2359 would create a new advisory committee to the Illinois Department of Transportation when prioritizing road projects. Her bill also would change the way projects would get funded. Currently, engineers distribute money based on such factors as the condition of roads, the traffic flow and the population served. Ryg said her bill would fund the greatest maintenance needs first, and then the regional groups would advise the Transportation Department on other local needs.

In plain words road projects would not be based on how many pot holes a road has or how much grid lock is caused by too much traffic on a narrow road. Instead an appointed committee will base road improvements on "need", and of course this new layer of government in her opinion would do the job better. It sounds like a typical big government, tax and spend Democrat plan. The Democrat controlled state legislature has plans to raise our state income tax, gas tax, license plate fee, etc... We need to remember the growing layers of government and the growing tax burden come election time next year.

We are not better off now.

Are you better off now than you were eight years ago?

When you look around today you find that civil rights are being trampled, our Constitution is being ignored, the press is being silenced, and the "I'm a uniter not a divider President" is busy using laser guided diplomacy. The economy has stagnated and the war drums beat ceaselessly. Now more than ever, it's important to remember that you have the freedom and the power to make a difference.

The above is currently on the website of the 8th District Democrats and Independents. It was meant as an attack on President George W. Bush, someone forgot to tell them he is no longer President. But their question is still valid, are we better off now?

The economy keeps getting worse, BILLIONS tax dollars cannot be tracked, we have a TRILLION dollar budget deficit, and taxes keep going up. Our troops are still fighting overseas, but it seems Congress and the President are too busy to notice. The administrations first attempts at diplomacy by giving low priced gifts and defective toys to foreign diplomats have not helped. Iran has ignored the Presidents appeal for diplomacy. The only thing the Democratic Administration is doing well at is attacking the Republican Party.

My answer to their outdated question is NO we are not better of now.

Get Cook County out of Round Lake

Round Lake has a chance to remove a Democrat that has had plenty of help from his friends in the Cook County Democratic Party.

The United for Change slate has Jim Dietz for Mayor, Joyce Swieton for Clerk, Don Newby, Suzan Triphahn, and Sonia Sandoval for Trustee. They want Round Lake governed by its citizens and not by anyone influenced by the politics of Cook County. This is a time for fiscal responsibility, not for tax and spend policies. We need to keep Cook County corruption out of Lake County. Round Lake needs to elect Jim Dietz for Mayor of Round Lake on April 7th.

News from the Bean

Breaking news for the 8th Congressional District:

BEAN COMMENDS PRESIDENT OBAMA FOR EARMARK REFORM MEASURES Rep. Bean Praises New Requirements on Transparency, Competitive Bidding

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Melissa Bean made the following statement in response to President Obama’s plan to reform the earmarking process, and a corresponding statement from House leaders:

“I am proud to stand with President Obama in strong support of earmark reform,” said Rep. Melissa Bean (D-IL). “While district perspective is vital to ensuring federal spending is targeted to local priorities effectively, I have been an advocate for greater transparency and accountability since I came to Congress. I applaud the President’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and better return on taxpayer’s investments on American tax dollars.”

Maybe Congresswoman Bean considers 9,000 earmarks and a TRILLAN DOLLAR budget deficit as an example of “fiscal responsibility”, I don’t think the 8th District does.

On Wednesday an estimated group of five thousand citizens lobbied the State Legislature to ensure their Second Amendment rights of gun ownership. Before they had even arrived the Chicago Democratic controlled Legislature killed in committee the concealed carry bill. Forty-eight other states have some kind of firearms concealed carry law and have not seen any problems. The Dem leadership also made sure all State Senators and Representatives were busy in committee and in session. These private citizens without any aid from local government or national special interest groups, organized, marched, and lobbied their State Government. The key words are “their State Government”, not the State Government. This is how the Founding Fathers thought government should work. It was too bad the Chicago Democratic Party did everything they could to discourage this demonstration. The government does not belong to any political party it belongs to us.

Follow Teddy not FDR

An article in Thursday's Daily Herald by David Ignatius, asks President Obama to "look at President Theodore Roosevelt's response to the financial shenanigans of 1902." It seems T.R. had a better way of dealing with the nations economic problems then FDR which Obama wants to follow. Instead of creating larger bureaucracies we should be breaking them up into smaller companies as T.R. did. We are now throwing hundreds of BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars into the financial mess and it seems the money just disappears into a vast black hole of financial giants that Washington is afraid to break up or let fail. "The big financial trusts of our day have been threatening the regulators with ruin, and the regulators have been caving." It seems T.R. and his cabinet were made of sterner stuff compared to President Obama's cabinet. I believe T.R.'s cabinet all paid their tax bills unlike the current cabinet, maybe that has something to do about it.

The path that President Obama is taking will bring us big government with big corporations.
A better idea is for the Republican Party to hold onto the values of Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan, which have proved in the past to not only help the Country out of economic troubles, but are also the values that founded this Country. By keeping true to T.R. and Reagan the Republicans will retake Washington and put the Country on the right path.

Damn the Icebergs Full Speed Ahead

Rahm Emanuel White House Chief of Staff is doing the Sunday TV talk shows to promote President Obama's programs. He was asked why the current budget bill before Congress has 9,000 earmarks? His response was that the bill was last years business not something of the current Administration. Maybe he should ask the US Senator from Illinois that held the seat last year why he put in his own earmarks. If President Obama could help craft legislation this year to give us a current 1 TRILL IAN DOLLAR budget deficit, why can't he stop 9,000 additional spending earmarks in a bill started last year but still not even passed or signed this year. Rahm Emanuel did say all spending earmarks will be made public for everyone to see. That sounds like we will continue to have wasteful spending from Washington but they will let you know about it. I believe the Captain of the Titanic did announce to the passengers that the ship was having trouble but there was no need to worry.

If anyone sees Congresswoman Bean while they are traveling outside our community, please let her know that spending large sums of money with nothing in the bank is considered a crime in the private sector and doing the same in Congress is considered national disaster.

There are not enough life boats on our Ship of State, just as there were not enough life boats on the Titanic.
