Taxes & Big Government

Many of us have gotten our property tax bills and they are higher then last year.

Governor Quinn wants to increase the State income tax this year. The Governor has also announced that he wants taxpayers to pay the campaign bills of candidates for statewide offices.

None of these come even close to the tax burden that President Obama wants to put on us and our grandchildren.

Big government needs large amounts of tax dollars to take care of the citizens in the way big government thinks is best for the public. The Federal Government does not know what is best for my child, it should not tell me what my life style should be, government should not favor one group of citizens over others, why should the government decide what companies will survive and which will fail. The Founding Fathers left governing society to the state governments and the people themselves. We need and should have a Federal Government that is ruled by the Constitution and the American People.

President Ronald Reagan once said "I don't believe in a government that protects us from ourselves." This is something to remember when another new government program or bail out is announced. This is something to remember in November of next year.

Big Government & Big Unions

Congresswoman Melissa Bean is a co-sponsor of the bill to do away with the secret ballot for workers voting whether to join a union or not. The unions favor the idea since they would be able to put pressure on employees who might not like the idea of joining a union. Why should workers loose the right to keep their vote secret, the same right that everyone has when voting as a citizen in a general election? The only reason is to help the unions who are big supporters of the Democrats and Congresswoman Bean. Big government and big unions work hand in hand together.

Anyone who wants small government and individual liberty should be against this bill. Maybe we can tell that to Congresswoman Bean the next time she visits our community.

Big Government

Big government is growing larger under the President of Change. The stimulus money has now made it to state road projects and so has big government. At a recent meeting of a stimulus funded construction project, seven employees of the Federal Department of Labor attended. The spokesperson for the group announced to the contractor that he will follow a 16 step plan in order in comply with federal labor rules. From what I remember Moses only needed 10 commandments for the nation of Israel and President Woodrow Wilson only had 14 points to end World War I. The Department of Labor 16 steps does not include the rules the Federal Highway Department will impose on the contractors. On all highway projects that have stimulus money the contractor must display a newly designed Federal sign, so the public can see where some of their tax dollars are going. With Federal dollars come Federal strings. But from what I'm told the Federal Government does not earn any money at all, it all comes from the taxpayers.

So as you drive down the highway and see those road crews out there repairing the road, just remember all the Federal inspectors, staffers, and bureaucrats that it takes to make all this happen. I just wonder how this was ever done before we had all this change and we as taxpayers were left with pocket change.

Voice of the People

The Democrats are getting a little confused these days. The people are voicing their concerns without being instructed by the liberal media or the Democratic Party. DavidAxelrod, the voice of the White House was asked his opinion of the Tea Parties. David Axelrod called them an "unhealthy expression", what he really meant was this is something that the Democrats cannot control, so it must be wrong.

State Rep. Kathy Ryg, when asked about the Build 53 vote responded, that the public has shown support for expanding IL53. She however expressed concern that the referendum may create unrealistic expectations that IL53 will be built. I think that finding a way to build IL53 would be her job and the Democratic controlled State Legislature after the voters have clearly approved the project.

This is not how the Dems planned things out, the people are supposed to follow what the elected officials deem is correct for the public. The people according to the Dems are not supposed to express ideas that the Dems have not approved. There are those people that may have realized that this is a country "of the People, by the People, for the People", something that a past Republican President expressed.

Township Local Government

Lake County Townships had their Annual Town Meetings on April 14th, I had the opportunity to attend the Fremont Township Meeting.

Trustee Mike Hayek presented the efforts that are being taken to make the community aware of water use. Awards were given out to Fremont school children for posters promoting water conservation.

Supervisor Pete Tekampe gave details of the new public park "Behm Homestead Park" that the Township will have open for public use this July. He also gave details on the increasing number of people coming to the Township Office for public assistance and to use the Township Food Bank. The Food Bank is mostly funded by donations of the community.

Highway Commissioner Bill Grinnel commented on the past hard winter and the increasing price of salt and asphalt.

I know other news sources and Blog sites have commented on doing away with Township government. I'm sure that could be done, however County Government would need to step up and provide the services that the townships do now. More local offices would have to be opened up to serve the community, not everyone can travel to the county seat office for public aid. Before we close the township office we need to make sure the counties are ready for the additional work load.

But until they close the townships we can attend township meetings to make sure the tax dollars they collect are being spent correctly. You may be surprised how they serve the community. Check out the Fremont Township website http://www.fremonttownship.com/

2010 Elections are close

The 2010 election season is already on us. Dough Whitley appeared before the Republican Assembly of Lake County on April 9^th. Doug Whitley has a long resume in running companies, not for profit organizations, and for two years the Ill. Dept. of Revenue under Governor Jim Edgar.

Doug Whitley explained why he thought it was time for the Republicans to take back the Governor’s Office. Governor Quinn plans on raising taxes, without looking to trim any of the health care programs that Rod created or increased while he was governor. Our State government no longer responds to the needs of the public or business as it once did. The Federal Highway Department has expressed it does not think that the Ill. Dept. of Trans. is up to the job to get the stimulus projects completed. Our neighboring states are taking advantage of our bloated and weaken state government. Companies are being invited to move out of Illinois and cross the state line to lower taxes and less government bureaucracy. The Dems have only shown they plan on more of the same even without Quinn as governor.

Doug plans on turning this around by looking at all phases of state government and cutting what we can do without. He wants the state to assist companies in Illinois to grow and encourage other companies to move into our state. He wants government to work as the citizens of Illinois expect it to.

It is still too early to tell, but I think the Republican Party is off to a good start.

Lake County voters speak

The voters of Lake County have given the Democrats a defeat.

Bill Gentes, the Mayor of Round Lake that was backed by the Cook County Dems for State Senate lost the race for mayor. James Dietz became mayor with over 65% of the votes.

The Democrats did not even try to hide who they were in Vernon Township. They thought it was their time to take out William Peterson for the office of Township Supervisor. Bill won re-election with over 57% of the vote.

This only proves that if the Republicans give the voters good qualified candidates the voters will support them. Lake County belongs to the residents and not to the political bosses of Cook county, that was the message from this election.
