Cook County Pork Projects

Our Governor and the Democratic controlled State Legislature passed a $31 BILLION capital spending plan to improve roads, rails, and school buildings this month.

According to a July 25th article by the Illinois State Journal-Register, $100,000 of this $31 BILLION package went to the private Brookfield Zoo to repair the dolphin tank. Brookfield Zoo has $135 million sitting in their bank account while they use our tax dollars. $100,000 will go to the private Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago. Another $2 Million will go to the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. The list goes on and on of these pork projects in the Capital Spending Plan, while needed repairs to some roads and schools go without.

A statement by House Speaker Michael Madigan's Office said, they were not aware of anything wasteful being done. In other words this is how things are done in Cook County politics with public money. The Dems control all state wide elected offices and the legislature for now. Come November of 2010 we the people can change that.
