Congress vs the People

I just finished reading the Federalist Papers and it must be said that the founding fathers looked at their new Constitution from every angle they could imagine. Our Constitution was created to stand the test of time. Our greatest Presidents understood the meaning of the words that are in it.

My guess is Lincoln kept a copy close, since it spoke to him of the dangers of a divided Union. Theodore Roosevelt may also have had a copy close, since he would refer to the powers that the Constitution did and did not allow the President. He also pointed out that the people are the real power of this country and not those who hold office in government. When was the last time you heard a national leader say that?

Theodore Roosevelt warned us about the Big Bosses of Industry trying to influence the few leaders of government to run government for the benefit of Industry. Congress is there to represent the people of the United States. Lincoln said, “…that government of the people, by the people, and for the people, shall not perish”.

I wonder if anyone in Congress has read the Constitution lately, not to mention the Federalist Papers. I hope they realize they owe their loyalty to the people and not to the Big Bosses.
