Freedom vs Politics

Why would anyone want to go into politics? That is what a good friend said about Illinois politics. He went on to say that he would consider hitting his son with a big stick if he came home with the idea of running for public office. I have attended many public meetings of village, library, and park district board meetings. The one thing they all had in common was lack of public attendance.

What happens when the citizens of this state stop caring about what happens in government? If people of good character are scorned or considered naïve for wanting to serve their community, what are we left with? The professional politicians will eventually take over and assure us that government will watch over us.

There are still patriots in this land that are willing to serve and fight for this country. We have good neighbors that want their children to grow up in a land of opportunity. There are good politicians that believe in individual responsibility and liberty. Our Founding Fathers and untold veterans fought for the freedom of this country. They fought knowing our government does not decide what freedoms and liberties its citizens will have. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution state that, God not government gives these liberties. If we ignore our government and scorn those that serve in it, we may one day wake up and find that the government no longer serves us, it will be us that is enslaved by government.

Take the time to know who is running for public office and what they are doing with your tax dollars and your freedoms.
