President Obama gave his first speech before Congress, which outlined his views of what the Federal Government should be doing to help the country. Along with defending new spending programs, which have little to do with creating jobs he brought out the name of our favorite President. Evoking the name of Theodore Roosevelt will not help an ill- conceived program. Mr. Obama stated:
“But I also know that nearly a century after Teddy Roosevelt first called for reform, the cost of our health care has weighed down our economy and the conscience of our nation long enough.”
So does this mean that the Federal Government will now expand will give us socialized medicine? Mr. Obama also stated:
“We’ll eliminate the no-bid contracts that have wasted billions in Iraq, and reform our defense budget so that we’re not paying for Cold War-era weapons systems we don’t use.”
President Theodore Roosevelt modernized our military, doing away with some weapon systems that dated back to the Civil War. At the same time he gave us the Great White Fleet, which prepared us for World War I. T.R. did away with the old but also prepared us for the future, will our current President do the same? Will Mr. Obama’s plan for the military do away with Cold War20weapon systems without any thought for the future military threats to this country?
I don’t think anyone can seriously compare President Theodore Roosevelt with President Barack Obama.
