Mr. Smith goes to Washington

One of my favorite movies is “Mr. Smith goes to Washington”. The plot of the film involves a group of corrupt politicians that appoint a naive man to be a US Senator. They have a large piece of legislation which would help economy that needs to be approved as soon as possible. Hidden in the legislation are pork barrel appropriations that will make them rich. At one point the naive Senator wakes up and tries to stop the wasteful spending. This of course looks hopeless since a majority of the Senate including some of the minority party members only care about passing it and don’t want to wait to investigate what they are about to vote on. I really do like a good fiction story to keep my mind off the real world.

President Obama, 2/4/2009: “A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into catastrophe.”

The President will have on his desk Monday legislation that Congress with the help of some minority members passed in such a short time that most did not have time to investigate what they were voting on. Some lone minority members of the Senate claim there is pork in the Trillion Dollar bail out package.

I wonder if some Hollywood studio is considering suing the Congress under the copy write laws?
